Candelilla Institute starts Viability Studies for New Technologies Application.
With the collaboration of the Research Center in Applied Chemistry (Centro de Investigación en Química Aplicada “CIQA” in Spanish), Candelilla Institute has started activities to determine the economic viability of applying new technologies in Candelilla wax production. Solvent based-extraction processes are being analyzed, whose experimental results have shown significantly higher wax production yields, as well as better product quality, compared with the traditional process that operates with sulfuric acid.

Candelilla Institute participates at the UANL Botanical Activities Workshop.
With the aim of promoting a closer interaction with the university and industrial communities of Monterrey, Candelilla Institute participated as exhibitor at the 3rd Botanical Activities Workshop, organized by the Biological Sciences Faculty of the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León “UANL” in Spanish). The workshop took place at the University Campus, from November 9 to 12, 2004, with a very enthusiastic response from participants towards the Candelilla plant topic and its great value as a natural wax producer.

Candelilla Institute launches website.
As an essential platform to spread relevant information on Candelilla wax, Candelilla Institute has published its website on the Internet. This important tool will allow sharing the Institute experiences and projects with the international community, as well as promoting more actively the Candelilla wax utilization worldwide.

Mexico exports 2.5 million pounds of Candelilla wax in 2003.
During year 2003, Mexico exported 2.5 million pounds of Candelilla wax to different countries worldwide, showing an increase of 30% with respect to exports of this product in 2002. Main consumers of Candelilla wax have been The United States, Japan, Germany, France and The United Kingdom. These five countries demanded over 96% of the total Candelilla wax exports in 2003.
